Antique Victorian Mourning Bracelet
The tradition of Mourning jewelry dates back to ancient times, but became very popular during the Victorian Era (1800s). Mourning jewelry was created to commemorate the deceased. It usually had some significance for the mourner.
Made of Jet Black (A black fossilized wood, commonly used due to its somber appearance)
Gold filled. 10 large and 4 small jet black beads covered on one side with gold under glass. One small bead is missing the gold and black. There is a cross made of jet black backed with gold and possible sterling and a heart made of jet black covered with glass over gold. Beads have small chips and dings.
Comes in an antique green cloth covered box marked "August Heurich Jeweler 3057 Lincoln Ave. Chicago"
Measures: 2" round inside
2 3/4" round with with dangling cross and heart measuring an extra 1 3/4"
